If you buy ground turkey in bulk, it can bring the price down by the pound. At Sam’s Club, a 2.5-pound tray of Jennie-O can retail for as little as $13. Costco sells a 93 percent lean group turkey for $2.59 per pound, with the average package containing seven pounds. Even if you can’t eat it all at once, ground turkey can be frozen for months and the taste and quality will not be affected.
Like any meat in the grocery store, keep your eyes opened for sales. If the price is good enough, this could be the time to stock up. Anything less than $2 to $3 per pound is deemed a good deal.
Also, keep your eyes in the clearance section. If the meat is about to expire, many stores will knock a certain percentage off. As long as you freeze it or use it right away, there should not be a problem with it.
