In this case, sand is used similarly to balls/guts once they median courage/audacity. How did we obtain this usage? Is the etymology the sand below the exact same as sand top top a beach?

Someone ns asked mentioned this character. Ns feel prefer someone wouldn't just make a phrase like the up! It sounds kooky. Plus that is also referenced here: http://genius.com/6412326 and here: http://onlineslangdictionary.com/meaning-definition-of/sand

Can ns make a general request for this sub: as soon as asking around the beginning of a word/phrase, please shot to incorporate an actual example of the consumption you room asking about. Like others, I've never ever heard this expression before.

You are watching: What does it mean to have sand

Here are all of the actual examples I've found.

While your dominion is good in theory, ns think that it might make this sub useless come anyone asking around a specifically uncommon expression (like this one has proven come be).

It's true that not providing an instance makes the task harder, however nobody had actually an actual example of one Enigma intercept before Bletchley Park went to work. The most exciting words room often likewise the most elusive. I don't see why we'd set any dominance that would acquire in the means of the factor behind the subgaianation.net: learning an ext about etymology.

Also, I uncovered a probable solution here: http://verbmall.blogspot.com/2008/09/got-sand.html

This may he a substantial stretch but when I invested some time in Canada's east coastline I would certainly hear civilization say "go lb sand" or "go pound salt" together an different to "go f*** yourself." If salt and also sand space interchangeable then maybe "do you have the sand" could mean "do you have actually the salt?" In this case "having salt" would typical "having strength" but I'm simply spit balling here...
